Happy May Day!

First, two inches of rain fell.
The snow began the evening of April 30.....
Our front porch....

And continued hard on May Day.....
The snow is to the top of our Little Barn and
halfway up the Big Barn.
This whole corral was FULL of snow.
Good ol' John Deere came to the rescue!

The snow stopped around noon today.
We think we've had about 2 feet.
But there was so much wind, who knows?
No electricity for 2 days (so far) and many poles are broken
so it may be a week before the power is restored.
Thank goodness for our generator.

I couldn't resist another birdie picture.
This is a Rufous-sided Towhee.
(kind of like a mini-robin)
It's gonna be a GREEN spring!

  2. I can't believe you got that much! I just hope it's helpful come the dry season. Yes, I am thankful you have a generator and you heat with wood too don't you?

  3. Thanks for stopping in. Yes, we heat with wood too, so the combo of generator and wood-burning stove works well for us. It looks like we may be without electricity for a week or so. Lots of broken poles.

  4. It's just so hard to imagine this much snow falling in May! I'm glad you have a generator, too. We need to get one of those!

Like Leslie, I really enjoy your bird photos, Jody, and everything you post about nature. Sweet.

  5. Oh my, snow everywhere. I love birds and am tickled you shared a photo of the Rufous-sided Towhee. Looks like he's trying to figure out where to go to find warmth. Maybe he'll fly here and you can come with him to escape the cold.

  6. Oh Jody, I hope your electricity is restored soon! The cold weather headed east, but we only got rain-thank goodness. I hope it warms up for you soon,
    Deb
BTW, the paint color about which you asked is Fiddlehead D12 from Martha Stewart Everyday Colors.

  7. Jody,

When I was five, our family made a huge cross-country trek to visit Montana, where my Nana and her family spent their teen years. We were supposed to be coming home around Labor Day, but there was a big snow storm and we were snowed in out there. My Dad was in the National Guard, and was going to be late for his scheduled Guard weekend, and they didn't believe him when he called to say he was snowed in across the country! I think they had to have the local sheriff make an official call to the base so he didn't get in trouble!

Snow is pretty anytime of year, but it sure can cause trouble... especially when it's wet & heavy! Hope things get back to normal soon!

    Kim :-)

  8. Man, oh, man, Jody! I knew you had lots of snow and lost power, but these are the sorts of pictures that are worth a thousand words.

The Towhee photo reminds me of that Robin poem, the one that ends, "And what will Robin do then, poor thing?" His feathers are even ruffled!

(Can you tell I'm catching up on my reading ;-) ?)
