Western Tanager...

More migration!
This fellow is a Western Tanager.
I've only ever seen one other in my life.
Isn't he a beaut?

He and his wife (below) are likely stopping over for a rest
as they migrate to Western Montana to the forests.

Mrs. Tanager is pale, olive green to yellow, and no bright red head
like her husband.
I'm seeing a few warblers showing up.  So far I've seen

  1. He is most definitely a beaut! You take such cool bird photos. You must have a great telephoto lens to get such closeups without them flying off.

  6. Such vibrant colours. Lovely pics Jody. There is a lot happening over your way amoungst the bird world. I've been enjoying seeing all your feathered visitors.
I noticed yesterday morning, the swallows were back nesting in my neighbours garage. They were having a much needed break on the telephone wire just above our deck. Wouldn't you know it the camera battery was flat!

  7. What a beauty! I would be deliriously happy to find bluebird eggs AND this gorgeous bird in my yard. Even just one of these! I have seen more bluebirds this week than I have in my whole life combined so I can't complain! :)
