Western Tanager...

More migration!
This fellow is a Western Tanager.
I've only ever seen one other in my life.
Isn't he a beaut?

He and his wife (below) are likely stopping over for a rest
as they migrate to Western Montana to the forests.

Mrs. Tanager is pale, olive green to yellow, and no bright red head
like her husband.
I'm seeing a few warblers showing up.  So far I've seen

  1. He is most definitely a beaut! You take such cool bird photos. You must have a great telephoto lens to get such closeups without them flying off.

  2. I can't believe you "caught" them. YOu must have been in just the right place at just the right time. Gorgeous!

  3. You're catching all kinds of pretties lately!

  4. You are a lucky duck, I mean bird! I love the birds you see. I guess I'm thankful for all my little brownies.

  5. That is the prettiest little bird, I have never seen one...looks like it could belong in a rain forest! Come say hi :D

  6. Such vibrant colours. Lovely pics Jody. There is a lot happening over your way amoungst the bird world. I've been enjoying seeing all your feathered visitors.
I noticed yesterday morning, the swallows were back nesting in my neighbours garage. They were having a much needed break on the telephone wire just above our deck. Wouldn't you know it the camera battery was flat!

  7. What a beauty! I would be deliriously happy to find bluebird eggs AND this gorgeous bird in my yard. Even just one of these! I have seen more bluebirds this week than I have in my whole life combined so I can't complain! :)

  8. Wow! I have never seen that bird. It is amazing. God must have had the best time creating birds!

  9. What a beautiful bird! I haven't been that lucky to see one so unusual. I get giddy when I see a bluebird!!
