On the street where I live....

Miss Turkey came down the street where I live early this morning. The waddle under her chin is bright red with the sun shining behind her.  I wonder what she's thinking about when she walks around the place alone?
Cows were trailing out to pasture on the street trail where I live.
I was driving the feeder truck and the cows were following behind.

It's time for a big drink before we finish the long walk to the Nine Mile Pasture where the other cows are grazing.
It's called Nine Mile because it's nine miles from our little, bitty town.
Here's where I leave them off.  The guys will take the cows a good two miles or so down this trail before they reach the pasture gate where that dot-of-a-tree is.  You'll have to click the pic to enlarge it and see what I mean.
Gray clouds mixed with blue sky and sunshine where above the street gravel road where I live.  I enjoyed a windy, brisk daily walk to the mail box.

Big Sky Country is what it's called.
It is the Heavenly Ocean above the street where I live.

  1. Does the quiet ever feel too quiet?
Do you ever feel alone? When you visit in town does it feel like the people live to close together? Do you miss the sky when you are inside?
That is such a big sky. When I moved here I had spent 20 years living in a neighborhood. In order to see the sunrise, I would climb to the top of my children's fort and perch to watch it rise. I would feel sometimes like I couldn't breathe.
Then we moved and now I see the sun rise and the sun set. I wonder how I ever lived before.
Though the beauty does not compare in anyway like yours.
    It is so beautiful.
    Thanks for sharing.

  2. It's fun to hit the trail with you and see what you see. Our son that lives in Eastern Washington is in wild turkey land. I sent a turkey roaster home with him this past weekend. Have a great rest of your week!

  3. Oh funny Mr. Turkey and cows that shadow you! I bet it is quiet out there. As I'm typing this I have spotted ducks walking past my fence and then I realize three of them are in my yard, one of which is Precious who has a deformed wing. Guess I better go usher them out....

  4. Gasp! We are neighbors...sort of. Ours is a BIG state, for sure. But we share the same Big Sky. That makes us neighbors, right? Lovely picutes.

  6. Gorgeous ocean sky, Jody!
The cows are so nice, following along so obediently.
I can almost smell that wind that dances with you when you hike to the mailbox.
    (BIG HUG!)

  7. Oh yes, big sky indeed and wide open spaces -- kinda like my old stomping grounds. When I first moved to east Texas from the west, I felt a little hemmed in - couldn't see enough of that big sky - too many trees ;). Do you feel that way when you leave home?

  8. Farm Girl,
Honestly, I never feel like it's too quiet. I think that comes from raising 5 kids and hardly ever having a quiet moment to myself. I love the quiet.

I don't really feel alone too much either. Again, I rather like being alone for the same reasons above. But I like people a lot. There are times when I don't get to see my friends much. I live so far away.

I am always amazed when I go to town and see how closely people live together. I shouldn't be surprised since I lived in town until I was 19, but now I've lived in the country much longer than I've lived in town and I can't imagine going back.

I miss the sky and the outdoors terribly when I must be inside. Even in the coldest, harshest weather, I still go outside even for a little bit. It's almost as if I can't breathe when I must be locked inside the house.

    Gigi,
Yes, I feel closed in when I go to town or go somewhere that doesn't have the open sky I'm used to. But generally, I try to enjoy the spot where I am at the moment. There's good and beauty in every place, isn't there?

    Thanks for your comments everybody!

  9. I love these photos. That is some wonderful big sky country!
Betsy is a sweet name for your granddaughter. My sister found this magnetic version of Betsy McCall at a doll convention several years ago. I know that you can buy actual Betsy dolls. I have an 8 " one, made by Tonner. And I know that there are some vintage Betsy McCall paperdoll magazine pages available for sale on ebay. Best of luck with your search.

  10. I grew up in the mountains of northern Wyoming, just east of Yellowstone part. Now, I live in Phoenix. I miss the wide open spaces, soaring mountains, and solitude that our ranch offered.
