Northern Lights, similar to what we saw last night.
Last night after the Ten O'Clock News, Hubs told me that we would be able to see the Northern Lights for the next couple of nights round about midnight. These sorts of things excite and thrill me. I'm a watcher of the sky. So after we snuggled into bed and talked about the day for an hour, I asked if he would like to join me outdoors to see The Lights. We pulled on our jeans and sweatshirts and walked out through the crunchy cottonwood leaves in the yard to see what we could see. There they were! The greeny-blue curtains of light on the northern horizon. We decided we might have a better view up on the hill towards the mailbox, so we drove up there and watched some more. The lights would spike and send green runners up into the sky and then fade away. It was lovely, but not as impressive as some other Northern Light Shows we have seen in the past. Maybe tonight it will be even prettier. I wish I could have taken a picture of them for you, but I am not that savvy with night time photography so I'll share a few pics from Google with you. Here's a little blip on the
Geomagnetic Storm that causes us to see the Northern Lights.
This sky is similar to one we saw back in the early 80's when we were just married a year or so driving home from Canada. We stopped and got out of the car to take it in. We really did think that Jesus was coming back, riding on the clouds of light. Imagine streaming red, blue and orange through the ribbons of light and you would get an idea of what we saw back then. I hope you're up with us tonight watching the sky!
how uttterly beautiful. I dream of seeing the Northern Lights one day!
ReplyDeletethank you for sharing these beautiful pictures- how amazing is Our Great Creator!
Very, very beautiful, that is the one thing I would love to see.
ReplyDeleteI think it is so neat that you got to see them like you did and yes, it would be so neat to see Jesus come back that way.
Truly a phenomenon I can't even fathom. I've never experienced anything like it before! I love that you said that you really thought that Jesus was returning. I'm just sure that is what we are supposed to reflect on when we see such things! Gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Debbie
Ohhh, beautiful! Now I'm tempted to stay up tonight to see if I can see them. I've only seen them twice before.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Deborah
I would love to see them. But alas I am almost as far south as you are north. We do have beautiful sunsets though.

Someday I'd love to see the Northern lights in all their glory.
ReplyDeleteG'day Gumbo Lily. They must be very beautiful to see. I have heard of them many times, maybe one day I will visit your part of the world and see them. Take care. Liz...
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard any talk around here that the Northern Lights will be in view. Maybe we're too far south? Anyway, beautiful! I'm on the next plane out.

Wow! How fantastic! I'm so glad you watched and shared with us!
ReplyDeleteoh I did not know they were active now...will be watching tonite! The very first time I saw them was in Oregon...we were coming home from Eastern Oregon hunting and I was driving and the two guys were sound asleep and all of the sudden the color in the sky was just unexplainable! Awe inspiring! Thank you for sharing ......
ReplyDeleteI've never seen them, so thank you for these pics and description. Jody, your posts lately have been so beautiful, and I really appreciate them.
ReplyDeleteI watched for them at 12,1,2,and 3 this morning (all the times Mary was up) but it was cloudy and didn't see anything. Maybe I'll get to see something tonight.
ReplyDeleteOh how utterly cool! I've never seen them - hopefully some day I will!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
GG
There's no seeing the Northern Lights from here, but on rare nights when the fog doesn't come in, I like to go for a walk with my man and see the moon and sometimes stars, above the neighborhood brightness.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and like hosts of angels. To think I spent £2000 to go see them in Norway and there you have them on you doorstep :)
ReplyDeleteWhoa! That is just way cool! As you can tell, I'm a little behind on my reading, but I'm catching up. That photo looks particularly eerie with the glowing tents and the photo framed so that the lights look like green smoke.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I'd love to see this, but I'm pretty excited just to be able to see some stars now and then, so my night sky expectations are pretty low.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I love to see the northern lights.
ReplyDeleteand like to do Northern lights photography.

Nice blog. Yes, we are not sure about we see the northern lights or not. But when I visited Alaska, it was the winter season and it was the best time for seeing northern lights. I see it actually. You can also plan trip to see the northern lights in Sep-Oct.
