Stitcheries and Full Wolf Moon...

This lil dollie I made for Mary Toodles' First Birthday, Jan 10th.
I found the pattern (and several of her friends) at
Hillary Lang has the cutest patterns for sale (and a few freebies).
I finished this flowery stitchery last summer, but never did anything with it.  I found it again while moving my sewing stuff from one room to another.  I put it into an embroidery hoop and hung it in the kitchen to remind me that summer will come again.

I was inspired to do these doodle stitching projects when I saw some of Cassie's at You Go Girl.  She has the best ideas and she makes the prettiest things.  She's got lots of good, creative talent!  This last stitchery is my Winter Circle.  I know poinsettias don't grow where it's cold, but oh well, it makes for a good theme anyway.    I finished this one during the Denver/Pittsburgh game on Sunday.  Hey!  How about  those Broncos??!!  Whoo Hoo!  We can hardly wait for next Saturday's game!  It'll be a tough one, but.... "We Believe!"

Did you see the Full Moon?  This picture was taken this morning as the moon was setting in the west.
Here is what the Farmer's Almanac says about January's Full Moon.....
Full Wolf Moon – January Amid the cold and deep snows of midwinter, the wolf packs howled hungrily outside Indian villages. Thus, the name for January’s full Moon. Sometimes it was also referred to as the Old Moon, or the Moon After Yule. Some called it the Full Snow Moon, but most tribes applied that name to the next Moon.

  2. Awhile ago when I looked up at the moon and was pointing it out to my daughter-I was thinking it would be something you would take note of too. I was trying to explain to my little girl that we all see the same moon...she thought there was a special moon for at Mamo's (Grandma's ) etc.

LOVE, LOVE, love your stitcheries! They are so cheerful!

  4. Your stitcheries are so pretty Ms. Gumbo - I love that cute little girl. I saw the moon last night - it was big and beautiful. I even braved the cold to take a picture, but mine are never any good!

  5. Lovely little stitchery projects. I really love the summer one in the hoop.
I need a almanac. I love reading about that stuff and what each moon is called.
The one time we got snow 15 years ago now, was the night of the Blue Moon. It was so awesome. We had snow for days. Very rare here.
I would like it if it would happen again.
I would settle for rain. :)
    Have a lovely week.

  6. Oh, I love your stitchery! I also love the word "stitchery"--why is that? I've never heard of a full wolf moon, but I like the sound of that, too. Thanks for educating us!

  8. Your embroidery is so pretty! I never really learned how to do it, but happily my mom taught my girls.

I got up really early the other morning and was confused by the glow in the room. Then I realized it was an almost full moon. It always takes me by surprise. I liked learning more about it from your post.

    Blessings!

  10. Too many clouds here to see the moon for several days. We have had more much needed rain so I won't complain.

All your embroidery is so sweet. I enjoy just looking at all the details and the colors are so pretty.

(Mom has poinsettias down near the Mexico border. They grow in her flower bed and get as tall as the eaves on her one story house. Can't even imagine what that is like as I look at two potted poinsettias that look kinda sad and are barely a foot tall.)
