Snow.....it's for the birds

Brewer's Sparrow  (I think)

We woke up this morning to 5-6 inches of wet snow.
All day long it has been snowing on and off
but melting underneath
into a slushy, sloppy, mud.
Poor man's fertilizer is what this spring snow is called.
It's full of nitrogen and melts slowly into the ground,
nourishing plants and grasses.

I took these pictures through the windows.
There's a little garden outside my laundry room window
that was a perfect place to watch and take close-ups.

I had a nice video of the Towhee doing it's Scratch-Dance
where they kick up dirt and things to find bugs to eat.
It's so cute, but the electricity is dipping and I didn't get it downloaded.

More Towhees and White-crowned sparrow

This little sweetie gave me plenty of adorable poses.
He's a Swainson's Thrush (I'm pretty sure)
.
What's not to love about this face?

And this one too?
It's still snowing this evening. I don't know when it will quit,
but I know that once it melts off, there's going to be
lots of green showing!

  4. Five to six inches? Ouch! We have snow in our forecast in northern Minnesota, but I certainly hope we don't get anywhere near that much! Those bird pictures are wonderful, and I love your itibits, too -- you're so creative!

  5. I can't believe you are getting snow. That is so great...in an American sort of way. :) I finally gave in to the heat and turned the a/c on yesterday. I love that you have different birds than we do here in Texas. I especially like the Towhee! What a colorful bird.

  7. Hi Jody! The green will be beautiful. The bird faces are delightful. I need to get out my bird guides. All the little ones at my feeder are brown. I'm so glad you are getting the moisture you need. Happy Friday!

  9. Of course, I love *all* of these photos. The birds look so cute when they're fluffed up, and you get some nice species. And I agree with Jami--you must have an excellent hiding place!

Shall I post some pigeon photos in response? That's what shows up at my window ;-).

  10. Jody,
I don't know how you do it....
I can never seem to capture a bird with my camera. Just as I am about to click, they fly away. You did well and now we can enjoy the rewards of your patience!
    Love those adorable little birds.
Glad you have a positive attitude about the snow....it will warm up again!

  12. What sweet birds and lovely shots Jody. I love to spy on the birdds through a window, but I'd have to use the bigger camera for closeup shots. The birds don't come close enough on account of our two gentleman cats.
Snow!! oh my goodness that does sound strange. We are having a cold wet phase at the momnet, but we can't complain as the past few weeks has been wonderfully warm.
