A new hat for a cold day...

OnlyDaughter crocheted me a new hat for these cold days.  She knows that I spend a lot of time outdoors, and she was so sweet to crochet this heavy wool-blend hat especially for me.  I do not knit or crochet, although I've tried, and I so appreciate the love and time that goes into making something by hand.  OnlyDaughter used two strands of yarn in gray and green to crochet a tightly woven hat.  I'm not so good with the camera on my new phone, but hey, I did it!  Isn't it a pretty hat?

This was the day that I walked into with the new hat pushed hard on my head.  The wind howled and the snow blew and blew all day long.  I only went out for a quick trip to the chicken coop and back, and honestly, that was quite enough.  I'm hoping for a better day tomorrow.

(holding a long note in G)  The........................sun will come out tomorrow, bet your bottom dollar there'll be sun!  (I hope so!)

  2. I've been thinking about you--I'd heard it's been waaaay cold up your way. Here, it's 25 degrees, and that feels way cold to us. Wish I had your hat--it's fab!

  3. I love that hat. It looks so cold, just like Laura wrote in about in The Long Winter.
I am so glad you live in a nice warm house. I was gathering eggs and thinking about yours freezing when it gets so cold.
I am glad you didn't have to stay out in it.

  4. Weather reports say that we'll look like this next week. I'm a bit excited! haven't tried the crochet with two yarns, though would love to make the tea cozy whose pattern I've seen in just such a technique...

  6. Oh sweet...what a great hat. And Jody, I really like your hair, too, with those pretty curls and perfect shade of gray highlights. You are one of those lucky women. I am still not sure how my gray will do but I'm thinking it is not going to be as pretty as yours.

  10. Our day today looks like the day in your picture -- blowing snow and I love it (of course, I can say that as I watch it from the window LOL). Love the new hat -- very pretty!!!

  11. Oh, I just LOVE that hat. The colors and everything! :-) The weather? It looks horribly freezing cold! :-) - Dori - (Did the sun come out the next day?!)

  12. Ha! We can sing along and hope with Annie :) The hat is very nice. Using two strands is a good way to get added thickness and warmth. I'm amazed that you've tried knit/crochet, and haven't had success! You would seem a natural, to me! But you're stitchery work is more beautiful, I think. Stay warm -- we have a cold, wet, blustery day here, but to you I imagine it would feel like a warm spring day :)
