Noses to the ground....

There's still some grass sticking up out of the snow so the cattle, sheep and horses still do some grazing, but with the cold days we've been having, the extra energy from hay and cake makes a big difference to everyone's bellies.  It's all noses to the ground when the feed gets spread out.

 (bucks)

 (a few herd bulls)

 (mature cows)

 (a few young cows)

The ewes hear me honking and come out of their hiding place.

(Noses to the ground, it's time to eat)

  2. Jody, those photos are absolutely fabulous! It's the same around here, extra hay when it's nasty cold and, especially, when it's raining or sleeting.

  3. Beautiful! I especially love the horses. That is the stuff of paintings. I went to that link of the place where you linked in an earlier post..Duluth Trading Post, I think. What a great sense of humor they have! Loved browsing their website.

  4. Brrr! Everyone needs to eat plenty to stay warm. I love your photos. BTW- Why do you call the male sheep "bucks"? I've always wondered that. Keep cozy!

  5. You made me miss feeding. Shoveling corn out the back of the pickup, riding in the silage wagon, and rolling out the round bales. Thanks for the memories.
