If you pray....

....please pray for Coptic Christians in Egypt.

So far, seven Catholic Churches and fifteen Coptic Orthodox and Protestant churches were attacked in Upper Egypt and Cairo, and more churches all across Egypt have been attacked and/or burned.  Alexandria is the birthplace of the Coptic Christian Church, begun with John Mark's (author of the book of Mark in the Bible) missionary visit to Egypt way back around 65 AD.  Here are a couple of articles on the recent attacks:  Catholic Online   and Open Doors.  The violence in Egypt is horrendous, and I really do not know what we can do right now besides pray.  This is not the only case of persecuted Christians. All over the Middle East Christians are being pushed out and persecuted.  Will you join me and pray?

"Even so, you too, when you see these things happening, recognize that He is near, right at the door."
~Mark 13:29

  2. I've been getting updates from our friend Lela Gilbert who wrote (Saturday People, Sunday People). She lives in Jerusalem right now.
A note from a Christian source in Egypt:

"According to the Maspero Youth Union, within 12 hours of breaking the MB sit-ins, 53 churches were attacked in nine different provinces. 24 of them were burned. Other attacks targeted Coptic houses, businesses, schools, a day care, a monastery, and an orphanage.
"The Coptic Church issued a statement condemning the attacks on churches and Christian businesses and asked the government for protection. They also asked " our Egyptian Muslims brothers" to defend churches. Pope Tawadros cancelled church services in fear for the lives of the Coptic congregations.
"The government stated that one of the main reasons of declaring a state of emergency and a curfew was the attacks on churches."
May God protect and comfort them...

  4. Thank you for this reminder, Jody.
I don't watch TV so I miss a lot. A friend just sent me this link that features a good interview with a Coptic bishop 2 1/2 minutes into the video. His attitude is exemplary.

  5. It wouldn't hurt to say a prayer for Muslims too. Many innocent lives have been caught in the violence. Not all of them are Christian.

  6. Jody, Thank you for this It is awful over there I saw they took some nuns hostage and paraded them through the street...I hope no harm came to them.

And you are right we need to stand in prayer for the persecuted church all over the world.
