Spring arrivals...

The chickies are here!

We have:
Barred Rock, Buff Orpington, Pearl White Leghorn,
American Araucana, and Red Star.
Four of the 28 are Red Star Roosters.
I'm thinking about raising chicks next spring, but we'll see how well I can tolerate the roosters.

Little ones love to play with chicks, and
Little hands love to gently hold a fluffy peep.

For now, the peeps are living in a large box in the mud room.
It's still really cold out in the coop at night.

  3. Oh I am so jealous. We had chickens when I was growing up but I can't keep them now. I am back and forth too much and there is no one to be at either place full time. They are beautiful! Plus, they lay beautiful eggs. I love the Aracaunas.

  4. Oh, they are so cute!! I keep hoping that the Engineer will let me have chickens, but do far, no go. Looking forward to watching them grow into the beauties of their breeds!

    Blessings!

About the roosters - I think of the challenge as finding one who will tolerate YOU. Good luck!

  9. Lovely chicks. I have two roosters because I wanted chicks a black and a white one. All of my chicks so far have been white. Guess who I don't think I will be keeping.
I love the kinds you got this year. Next year I am going to get big hens. I love your photos.

  10. Oh, I want chickens! It's high on my list, and Will's, too. We just have to convince the Man it's a good idea. Yours are adorable!
