You can find these vintage Miller brand western sweaters in our parts now and then, sometimes at ranch auctions, but rarely at the local thrift stores. I passed on a similar sweater at a yard sale because I wasn't as wild about the horses on it, but this one I snatched right up. I like the traditional western yoke in front and back, the zip front, and the cowl neck. This sweater went through the wash beautifully since it's 100% acrylic, and I know it's going to keep me nice and cozy all winter long. A five buck bargain --YeeHa!
You might wonder about the skull on the mantel. It's a cow head (not a bull) from our herd a few years back. Hereford, of course. A work of art to me.

This vintage western cardigan is not very fashionable to most people, but for this ranchwife, it fits the bill. I love it. And yes, a bargain!

ReplyDeleteYup, Hereford cows (at least horned Herefords) are born with horns. We de-horn cows now at birth, but years ago we had horned cows and we had to weight them down so they weren't sticking straight up and dangerous.

DeleteI thought of you whilst I was shopping in the thrift store. Since losing some weight, I need a few things that fit me better and so I took your advice and went thrifting for my "new" duds. I found a cute skirt and a pair of jeans too. Hooray!
Looking good, Jody! It snowed here again so is is for sure sweater weather. Brrrr..... I like the skull, too. I have a duck skeleton in my flower bed and if I could figure out a good way to mount and display it I would. :)

Also love your mantle and how the mantle is decorated. I don't love it when I have seen those pictures of skulls all full of glitter and bling! So strange to me! :) Each to their own, I suppose.

DeleteThis particular sweater is not really a "fashion statement" type of sweater, but it's western, it's something that I adore, it's vintage cowgirl and I'm lovin' it. A. Lot. Oh, and it's warm. If I find another one, I'll get you one. Size? The one I'm wearing is Medium. I honestly don't know if it's women's, but it was on the women's rack at the thrift store.
Thanks for the mantel love. Mine is simple. It has some necessary things on it besides the cow head. Two oil lamps for electrical outages and matches. Behind me are some marshmallow skewers just in case the littles are here and we want to roast some in the fire. You should have seen my cow head at Christmas. I wrapped the horns in lights. Kitschy Christmas to be sure.
