A childlike Christmas in Art...

I adore Carl Larsson's art.  The faces, the colors, the real-living.
Enjoy Christmas with the Larsson children and those who love them.

These first three pieces are close-ups from his painting called
"Now It's Christmas Again"

Even Grandma looks like a youthful child at Christmas!

(Do you see the young lady in the background praying before the creche?)

This is the original "Now It's Christmas Again" and as you can see, there is so much going on in this one image that the close-ups give us a deeper look.  If you wish to see these images in a larger, clearer size, click here .

This one is "Christmas Eve Banquet"
So many details here too.
"Brita as Iduna"
Iduna, the Norse Goddess of the orchard, apple-keeper of the Aesir who grows the golden apples that keep the sky gods eternally youthful.

I hope you've enjoyed A Childlike Christmas.  I sure have.
Thanks to Pom Pom for hosting this joyful event.
I wish you joy-filled days leading up to Christmas Day.

O holy Child of Bethlehem
Descend to us, we pray
Cast out our sin and enter in
Be born in us today
We hear the Christmas angels
Their great glad tidings tell
O come to us, abide with us
Our Lord Emmanuel.

  1. Oh, i love the artwork VERY much! I am going to click on over to the link you provide so I can look closer. Isn't all the red delightful? I wish I could draw like that. Lisbeth Zwerger's Little Red Cap and Thumbeline have the same fine line drawing, accented with red. I know I'm a bit earlier this week (we DO think alike!) with A Childlike Christmas, but you know I am off to be fairy grandmother at Kelli's later today. Thank you again, sweet buddy of mine! I've loved all your posts!

  2. I just love that art work. I love all of the things going on in the background. I love the colors too.
So glad you shared these today. I remember some of the pictures, I wonder if I have it somewhere? You know how you get tons of old books that are such treasures when you are homeschooling?
    Have a great day.

  4. Thank you, Jody! I love Larsson's work but I wasn't familiar with all of these Christmas pictures. I have added several on my Christmas screensaver collection and will think of you when they go by. Merry Christmas!

  7. Well, I've always liked Carl Larsson, but your post made me take a closer look. I clicked on the link and read the short biography there. Like so many men and women who become well-known, he had a rough start. I think one can see a deeply ingrained longing for domestic comfort and joy in the scenes he painted.

And I hope it doesn't denigrate the paintings to say that they'd make really lovely holiday puzzles. I love a good puzzle at Christmas time, and the best ones are warm and have something going on all over.

    Thanks for sharing these!
