Lambies...

The lambs are arriving.

Newborn lambs aren't fluffy at all. They are cute, but they are leggy and have saggy skin with a little bit of tight wool. Not much like the picture storybooks.....yet.

"I am the good shepherd; and I know My own, and My own know Me..." ~John 10:14 I am always reminded of this verse when I see pictures like this. S. is our good shepherd and his sheep sure do know him. They're licking and nibbling him as he lets them back into the shed for the night. (Notice how the shepherd doesn't mind if his sheep have boogers hanging out of their noses or if they have wrinkled noses or dirt in their eyes. He loves them.)

It's cold again. Just 4 degrees tonight. We've gotten a new 5 inches of snow after the last foot melted down. Tonight and tomorrow we're expecting more. The lambs and their mothers will be staying in the sheds until it gets warmer.

  1. Thinking of boots crunching on the snow in the dark, sleepy eyes and tired shoulders. (Somehow I just imagine this means getting up at night.)

I also liked your thoughts about the shepherd and the sheep. Not feeling presentable this morning!

  2. Oh, I love these little guys! Poor dear mum must be frozen without her wooly coat--yipes!-- in 4 degree weather too!

Just yesterday DD#2 took some photos & a brief video of the new lambs and their moms at the college agriculture pens. Spring is here (well--it's coming--really and truly!)

  4. Awww, how cute! I love lambie pictures -- you're so lucky to see them be born often. I hope you warm up soon -- it's raining here today.

  6. They're still pretty cute! I have some lamb pictures too - our farmer friend down the road had triplet rams and twins this week. He brought a little lamb to church and told the children about Jesus our Shepherd. Everyone, kids and all, were just hanging on every word. I don't think it will be forgotten soon.

  7. Oh those lambs look sweet! Have you read "A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23" by Phillip Keller? It's a wonderful book, and must be even more inspiring to someone who raises sheep.

Love your clothesline pictures! I've not tried "hanging out" in the snow, but we did manage to freeze our laundry a few weeks back!

    Have a great night!

  8. They are beautiful even if not like the storybooks! I held a day old lamb a couple years ago and was surprised at how coarse the wool was but oh so soft around their little face.

  9. I love it when the lambs and calves start showing up in the fields here. Another sign that spring is coming. Thanks for sharing, Jody. I hope the new babies stay warm. It's not quite as cold here as at your house. This morning it is 4 degrees, but sunny and beautiful.
