Preserving the Apple

It is finished!
(until we get another few buckets more from a friend)
My daughter-in-love and stepmom helped me in the making
of apple sauce and apple juice this week.
We counted 37 quarts of golden apple sauce and apple butter combined
and 26 quarts of beautiful crimson crab apple juice
which we will use to make jellies later.

My long two-pointed ladder's sticking through a tree

Toward heaven still.

And there's a barrel that I didn't fill

Beside it, and there may be two or three
Apples I didn't pick upon some bough.
But I am done with apple-picking now.

  3. Oh Jody the jars of crab apple juice look beautiful! I picked a few crab apples yesterday but they're the little green ones we get around here so I doubt my jars will be so beautiful.

I would love to hear more about apple sauce, that's something we don't have in Norway.

  12. Thanks for your kind comments everybody! I really do like to can and going to the pantry in the depths of winter is exciting and delicious. Who can resist strawberry jam or apple sauce when there's no sign of a fresh one in sight?
