I could get it hot enough to simmer water in a pot on top. I loved it. I would like to get a woodstove for this house, though it would take more than one to heat the place up. We do have a fireplace we use in the winter, and it's nice how everyone gathers round.

xofrancesLeft-Handed Housewifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15014518128739580267noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6095103946834851624.post-63178213501926130782010-11-01T13:41:59.467-06:002010-11-01T13:41:59.467-06:00A fire in the fall or winter is a wonderful thing....A fire in the fall or winter is a wonderful thing. I love the smell of certain wood burning when I drive through the neighborhood. We had a wood stove for a while and it really did do the trick for heating things up well. That card game sounds like fun...ellen b.https://www.blogger.com/profile/14531430948905935301noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6095103946834851624.post-27852499165166606462010-11-01T13:31:38.926-06:002010-11-01T13:31:38.926-06:00Oh, there is nothing as cozy as curling up in the ...Oh, there is nothing as cozy as curling up in the bone warming heat of a wood stove! My folks have been using a wood burning furnace as their primary heat source for years, and nothing matches it in my opinion. I never helped with the cutting, but I do remember taking my Dad a jug of water or a thermos of coffee while he cut trees or split logs. Thanks for reminding me. Such nice memories.Christyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00541785088428353355noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6095103946834851624.post-13985696572804976562010-10-31T10:16:12.065-06:002010-10-31T10:16:12.065-06:00PS - aha - I see that it uses a regular deck. And we often light the fireplace too, more for cosiness than warmth. It's lovely to sit in front of the flames and listen to the crackle and hiss.

We're a game playing family too. Egyptian Rat Killer sounds like a good Christmas gift for someone.

We've discovered a new to us card game called Wizard. Mmmmmmm. I spent many hours knitting by our wood stove when we lived in Spokane. The kids would play around me and I felt so important, keeping the stove stoked. We had cabin fires every summer when we spent three weeks at camp in British Columbia. It rained and rained, forcing us indoors, but the fragrance of the wood stove was extra soothing. Wood is good.
