Here we used to see the low, white pasque flowers. My mom tells how, in the Spring, the pasture was full of them. For the past 20 years, that pasture has been farmed... as is so much of the land. Flowers are gone. Very sad.

Isn't it fun to see what is Still "out there?" I'd never heard the name Gumbo Lily, but I love learning all the many nicknames of wildflowers. Once upon a time I bought some Evening Primrose at a local nursery. I loved the delicate pink flowers. I had no idea that it grows wild in so many places here or that it would take over my flower bed. I like wildflowers better anyway:o)Jennihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08483309441288822407noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6095103946834851624.post-37105318208833809742008-01-20T19:39:00.000-07:002008-01-20T19:39:00.000-07:00I never knew that about the clay soil called gumbo...I never knew that about the clay soil called gumbo... and here I've been trying to get my roux the color of your gumbo :-)Sandi @the WhistleStop Cafehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06113437420890699732noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6095103946834851624.post-79921780536799251892008-01-20T18:52:00.000-07:002008-01-20T18:52:00.000-07:00Elizabeth Joy,This is exactly how I want to be and...Elizabeth Joy,
This is exactly how I want to be and therefore the name of my blog -- Gumbo Lily.
