The power of music...

Here's something I've learned about myself.  When I am driving home from a day of being in town, I sometimes start to get tired, and do you know what revives me (besides peppermint gum)?  Music.  Especially my Oldies Station, COOL 101.9.   It's the music I grew up with.  When I click on that station, my mind wakes up, I can sing all the words to songs that I've not heard in years.  When I see this video of Alzheimer's patients, I think to myself, we ALL respond to music, don't we?  If you'd like to read the article from Dr. Mercola on the power of music on dementia and Alzheimer's patients, it's really worth a read HERE.

I love so many, many kinds of music:  60s, 70s, Bluegrass, Jazz, Country, Classical, Hymns.  Just about every style and type.  Let's do something fun!  In the comments, will you list some of your favorite songs or artists or types of music? Who is on your iPod or on your Pandora Stations?
Here's mine:  Alison Kraus & Union Station, Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson, Etta James, Leon Bridges, Motown, Sinatra, Gaithers, Selah, James Taylor, Eagles, YoYo Ma.  And I could go on and on!  Ok.  Your turn!

  1. Have you seen the Glen Campbell documentary about his Alzheimer's? It is really good- loved his music in the 70s when I grew up. He didn't know what day it was in the film but boy oh boy could he still play that guitar! Wasn't sure if I wanted to see it at first because of the subject but am glad I did!

    1. I haven't seen the documentary, but I grew up on Glen Campbell. His music reminds me of my dad -- especially Wichita Lineman -- since Dad was a lineman too.

  2. Yes! Hank, Waylon, Willie & Johnny. It's why my little guys pretend friend's name is Hank..

The Judds & Ian Tyson remind me of my mama.

Kids and I are loving High Valley, too.

Hymns always calm my heart when my mind can't.

  3. I love show tunes and piano music! Lately I really love children's music by Elizabeth Mitchell. I can just see you, driving toward the ranch, singing at the top of your lungs! Yay!

    1. I have Elizabeth Mitchell on my iPod for the Littles AND for me. I love her simple music. Do you listen to George Winston's piano music? I have several of his albums too.

  4. I love music and sometimes Dear and I will communicate with each other in lyrics. I enjoy the Beatles, Sinatra, Tomlin, Keith Green, and many more. 60's music wakes up my brain.

  5. Oh yes, music lifts my soul! Isn't it great when you see little toddlers rocking and foot stamping to music? :) Such an interesting video, thanks for sharing. I love Casting Crowns, Crowded House, The Gray Havens, Travis, and loads of other stuff. xxx

  6. When I worked at the tree nursery recently they had '70's music all day long. I think that resonates with me since that's when I was a teen. James Taylor; Creedence Clearwater Revival; Willie Nelson; Three Dog Night; Crosby, Stills and Nash; Simon and Garfunkel and others that I hadn't thought about for years would pop up. It depends on the '70's station. Some are more hard rock. I think my choices are more easy listening.

    1. Surprisingly, even though I was heavily involved in Christian singing in my younger years, I don't listen to a lot of music these days. I like silence. But now and then I have a music fest on YouTube. I do like Christian music, but I tend to OD on a CD of music and then put it away. I think years of being force-fed music over the PA at work has made me dislike music as a day-long background for life. :)

  7. Being a cellist, YoYo Ma is at the top of my list! But you can't beat hymns :-)

  8. I could list tons! I listen to the music on my phone on my way to work and back. No talking people. Old country, Scottish pipes and drums, old rock, and new alternative. Thanks for the article. Alzheimer's runs in my family.

  10. I've also found this to be true, remembering all the words to old songs from my teens. And although I love singing along with that stuff (1970s), I would never go buy it somewhere, haha! What do I listen to? Bossanova, I love that. Pearl Django is a favorite youtube group. I love soft new agey music some, Secret Garden is a nice group. Also Andrea Bocelli.
